Wildlife Hospital

Examination Rm

The wildlife hospital includes full veterinary facilities, intensive care enclosures and observation rooms. In addition there is the oiled bird cleaning room, rehailitation office and lab.

Aviary Blocks

aviary

West Hatch has two main blocks of aviaries as well as several single aviaries dotted around the site. A range of sizes from those suitable for small passerines to those suitable for large raptors and flocks

Badger, fox and deer paddocks

Paddocks

Our paddocks provide spacious accommodation for these species until they are ready for release

Small Waterfowl Paddocks

Waterfowl paddock

The small waterfowl paddock is netted over so it is very useful for holding birds with flight ability such as adult ducks and gulls, before they can be released.

Seabird Pools and Aviaries

guillemots

An array of enclosures designed for seabirds including aviaries with large shallow pools, aviaries with small deep pools and deep tanks makes the rehabilitation of oiled and exhausted seabirds possible.

Hospital Outdoor Runs and Pools

Cygnets

The Outdoor runs and pools provide casualties with more space and exposure to the elements. Mainly used for fox cubs, hedgehogs, waterfowl and seals, these parts of the hospital serve as a good halfway house before full-time outdoor accommodation.

BioBubble

The Biobubble recycles the waste water so that it can be used again thus conserving water and reducing our impact on the environment. West Hatch has a number of pools, and these pools along with all the cleaning we do means that the volume of water used can be quite high. The biobubble is an essential part of the operation of the centre

Seclusion Aviaries

The seclusion aviaries are great for birds that are particularly stressed due to their remote location. They are designed so that they can also be used for soft releases as well.

Corvid Aviaries

The corvid aviaries are three large aviaries used for the soft release of jackdaws and crows in late summer. The front of the aviaries swing open completely to allow easy access to the birds for post release feeding. The lawn in front of them is also used as a feeding area.

These aviaries are also good for raptors and owls too due to their large size and quiet location.
